What is Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)?

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a specialized form of cognitive-behavioral therapy designed for individuals who have difficulty managing intense emotions effectively. The term “dialectical” reflects the integration of seemingly contradictory concepts – DBT teaches people to balance acceptance of their current circumstances with active efforts toward positive change and growth.

DBT focuses on building proficiency in four fundamental skill areas:

DBT works particularly well for people who feel “stuck” in conflict, self-harm, or emotional suffering cycles.

The History of DBT

Dr. Marsha Linehan, a psychologist, developed dialectical behavioral therapy in the late 1980s. DBT was first created to treat Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), but it quickly demonstrated promise in treating a variety of complex mental health conditions, particularly those involving emotional instability, impulsivity, and suicidal thoughts and behaviors.

Our Programs That Offer Dialectical Behavioral Therapy in Arkansas

To accommodate each person’s needs and stage of recovery, Ozark Healing Center provides Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) at all treatment levels. Whether you want intensive day support or part-time outpatient services, our objective is to create a flexible, encouraging, and organized setting where DBT can flourish.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

For those who require structured therapy without the requirement for an overnight stay, our Partial Hospitalization Program is perfect. PHP clients take part in DBT both individually and in groups, usually five days a week. People who are experiencing severe distress or are leaving inpatient therapy are the greatest candidates for this level of care.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Our Intensive Outpatient Program is intended for clients who need more independence but yet need ongoing therapy help. DBT is provided multiple times a week in the IOP setting through individual therapy, skills training, and group sessions. Clients progressively resume their everyday obligations, such as work or school, while continuing to work on the four main modules of DBT.

Outpatient Program

Through our Outpatient Program, individuals can continue their therapy while actively participating in their daily lives. The program’s DBT sessions are planned according to each participant’s objectives and availability. This level of care is ideal for people transitioning from more intensive forms of treatment or for anyone wishing to improve their ability to control their emotions and build relationships.

What Can DBT Help Treat?

Among its many clinical uses, DBT is especially beneficial for people who are experiencing:

DBT is especially helpful for those who have had trouble with traditional talk therapy or who struggle to handle high-stress circumstances because of its structure and skills-based style.

How Often Will I Partake in DBT in Arkansas?

Your level of care determines how frequently you need DBT sessions. DBT is commonly incorporated into everyday therapeutic activities in our PHP program. While sessions at IOP may take place three to five times a week, depending on your treatment plan, outpatient DBT sessions may occur once a week or every two weeks.
We at Ozark Healing Center customize your DBT program to meet your needs, guaranteeing steady improvement without interfering with your everyday obligations.

What to Expect During DBT

DBT sessions are organized and encouraging. Learning useful skills, using them in real-world scenarios, and getting feedback from peers and your therapist are the main goals of both group and individual therapy.

Group sessions include role-playing exercises to practice new habits as well as psychoeducation. You can address certain emotional issues and customize these abilities in one-on-one sessions. To help you remember what you’ve learned, you can be given homework in between sessions. This could be journaling, mindfulness exercises, or using DBT diary cards.

Our clinicians offer a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients can push themselves, take chances, and develop gradually.
